Will Roof for Food

I have a knack, like Andrew Carnegie, for surrounding myself with people who exceed my intelligence and my skills in any given area. Unfortunately for them, I also have a knack for committing to projects I could not possibly do without them.

This weekend, my friend Jim was a victim of just such a scenario. I don't feel very bad, because the last time I roped him into a deal like this we were very well fed at the end. Besides, instead of ending in the dark and the rain, we ended in the middle of the afternoon. The tar spread like butter. The landlord brought out not just iced tea, but Constant Comment iced tea. Of course, there was the bit with the hornets, but there's always something, isn't there?

The payoff was sweet. Homemade bruschetta with this crusty bread that had freshly ground black pepper and whole garlic cloves. Delicious salads. Grilled salmon--some plain and some with cilantro butter, and Chilean Chardonnay (at $3.00 for a bottle this stuff was a sweet bargain). We finished off with coffee and banana nut bread, courtesy of my lovely bride. Just sitting on Kate's deck enjoying the view was a treat. This was a gorgeous weekend. The weather report says the rest of this week should be much the same. It might bear consideration that not long ago the weather report said this weekend was supposed to be a wet, sloppy mess. Then again, maybe not.
